April Fool’s Day: Deceivingly Delicious Dinner

by Mindy Lockard on March 27, 2012

What can I say, I love a good trick.

Not at the expense of others of course.

But living a gracious life doesn’t mean we can’t be clever. So with April 1st just around the corner, I think we should have a little dinnertime fun with an April Fool’s spin!

Who is in?

This tricky menu looks a little like this. Keeping in mind my Gracious Friends that on April Fool’s… looks can be deceiving.

So let’s live on the wild side and start with dessert first… or is it a dessert?

Not exactly. {wiggles her crafty fingers}

Start with your favorite meatloaf recipe and bake individual loafs in cupcake tins.

If you don’t have one, I’m happy to share mine with you.

Next, whip up a batch of frosting {mashed potatoes} and top with sprinkles {chopped carrots.} Voila, dessert for dinner!

Or, is it dinner for dessert?! Anyway…

Next up, the entrée: chicken strips with honey mustard dipping sauce.

If you’re guessing that these aren’t what they appear then all I can say is, “winner, winner chicken dinner!”  or maybe not {wink!}

These strips are long slices of banana rolled in crushed granola and dipped in peanut butter ‘n honey sauce.

To say we are bananas for them, isn’t a trick!

And the surprises don’t stop there! At our house dinner is often followed up by an impromptu activity like movie night in our jammies…

at the theater…

with popcorn, that’s real of course!

Now that I’ve shared our favorite April Fool’s traditions, I’d love to hear yours!

We used to rubber band the faucet and saran wrap the potty on April
Fool’s day….not quite as pretty as your traditions.
