Today’s Featured Fashion Insider Panelist: Gretchen Aubuchon founder of Fashion + Decor
I first met Gretchen when I attended the #Brimfield tweet up–an event she organized with The Daily Basics during the Brimfield Antique Show. Gretchen is as gracious as she is talented! I adore her style and sense of humor. I’m beyond thrilled that she has agreed to join our panel and can’t wait to learn from her #NYFW experiences.
An interior decorator and former marketing/pr director, Gretchen Aubuchon focuses on bringing home decor inspiration to her readers in a unique fashion.Gretchen takes inspiration from the latest runways and pairs that inspiration to its match in home decor. Or vice versa. Fashion and home decor together to inspire readers to dress their home as they would dress themselves.
Up close and personal with Gretchen on Fashion Week…
When did you attend your first fashion week?
Fashion + Decor all started because I was VERY good at styling my home and not so good at styling myself. The runway is new to me as I first started covering it a year and a half ago to learn how to find connections between the runway and the home. This being said, my first fashion week was in February 2012 for Fall 2012 Ready to Wear. I am now ADDICTED and will attend fashion week twice a year EVERY year!
What has been your favorite fashion week memory?
BEST memory for me was the Jason Wu Fall 2012 RTW show. Lets just say my ticket was Row One - Seat One. Yup. Do I need to describe any further? I was sobbing through the entire show. Not joking - It was UNREAL! I got to meet Jason too, so that was just AMAZING!
I also LOVED meeting the photographer from Glamour who handles the Don’t and Do column. He said I was a do (he was probably just being nice), BUT it was memorable!
What advice would you give the first time show attendee?
Wear what you are comfortable in! I went to 3 shows in one day in 4 inch pumps and I couldn’t walk for days after. ANYTHING goes at Fashion Week. Don’t feel like you need to wear the one designer label you have hanging in your closet because no one will care. Wear what you look good in and feel good in. Make sure you are comfortable and I promise you will rock the shows!
What trends are you most looking forward to this year?
Orange. I am feeling orange. Hoping for less pastels but who knows! Orange would be great for Spring and lots of pattern layering too!

Gretchen - Love hearing about your experience with Fashion Week. So true - anything goes as far as clothing and accessories. Be yourself and be comfortable!
