I’d like to introduce my most favorite niece on my side of the family, actually she’s my only niece on my side of the family. My sister Becky’s daughter, Kailey, often referred to as ‘Cakes’.
Today is Cakes’ third birthday. For Cakes’ birthday I wanted to give her something special. Something gracious. I’m not known for gifts with bells and whistles. I’m the practical auntie. The etiquette consultant auntie. The auntie who wants to pass on traditions and life’s beauties.
Cakes’ gift was inspired by a little bag I stumbled across at an antique shop in Del Mar. Every little girl needs an overnight bag for trips to Grandma and Grandpa’s or perhaps a journey south to her Auntie Mindy and Uncle Ty’s house.
Elle and I picked out the fabric and trim for this DIY overnight bag. Although this is the first time I have made an overnight bag, it is not the first time I have given an overnight bag. If you don’t have the time or desire to sew, never fear! I’ve found adorable totes at small children’s botiques or even discount stores such as TJ Maxx.
We filled the overnight bag with toiletries and a snuggly nightgown.
Attached a luggage tag if for some reason it’s lost on the journey…
and wrapped it with love!
I was thrilled that Cakes loved her gracious living overnight bag, and was touched when she couldn’t wait to show it to Grandma. With a twinkle in her eye she said, “Look Grandma! This is for pending the night at your house!”
Gift Note: I’ve also given at bachelorette showers filled with everything a new bride will need for weekend getaways with her groom. Wink!
