Chopstick Etiquettes

Happy Chinese New Year, Gracious Girls!

Yesterday, I took my show on the road to a local grade school to help a group of fifth graders get ready to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.  We talked about these chopstick tricks that will help you feel more confident the next time you pick up these sticks!

Don’t be afraid!  They won’t bite, I promise.

Practice holding them.  Less of a drumstick, remember I was with sixty five, fifth graders

More of this approach.  Start by picking-up the sticks like this…

using both hands to secure the sticks…

slide your hands down the chopsticks…

resting the bottom stick between your third and fourth finger, and the top stick between your thumb and index fingers.  It’s actually only the top stick that moves to pick-up food.

If at first you don’t succeed,

Try. Try. Again. Or in other words “stick” to it.  You’ll be a pro in no time!

If this whole etiquette gig doesn’t workout, I might have a future as hand mime.  Hey, I’m a girl who likes to keep her options open.

Until then, Happy Chinese New Year Gracious Girls!

Those sticks are making me hungry for sushi! Thanks for the instruction!
