DIY Beer-Pong Gift

by Mindy Lockard on June 28, 2009

Over the weekend we were invited to our first ever Beer-Pong party. What do you give the host or hostess of a beer-pong tourney? Honorific clad paddles of course.

At the hour the paddle gift idea came to me it was far too late to have anything done professionally, so I had to take matters into my own hands. To create the Mr. and Mrs. paddles I drew on my DIY glass etching skills that I aquired during my Christmas ’04 etching obsession, when I etched nearly everything but the windows in our house.

Here’s how you can monogram, personalize or honorific just about anything – even works on ping-pong paddles…

Step One: Have all of the necessary supplies on hand…
pong-suppliesSupply List: paddles, spray paint for hard surfaces or etching solution for glass, exacto knife, full sheet of sticker paper, and painters tape

Step Two: Print the name or monogram on sticker paper & use an exacto knife to cut out letters…

Step Three: Stick paper to paddle & wrap remaining surface with painters tape…

Step Four: Spray with paint or for glass paint on etching solution…

Volià you have personalized a paddles… jars, glasses, vases, wood frames, table tops or serving ware etc.

Warning: DIY monogramming/personalizing can become addictive. Proceed with caution and self restraint!

What a great idea! I am tucking this one away for future parties.

Wouldn’t it make a great party favor too? You could do everyone’s monogram with a beer!

Love the monogram with a beer. So fun! Honestly, when the monogram wheels start turning there really is no stopping it.

Have a great day!

That is hysterical!!! I could not wait for this post based on your tweets leading up to it! Thanks for sharing. GREAT idea!

I honestly have to say, when I read you were going to a ‘pong’ party…. I was wondering?… Ping-Pong, or did someone find a vintage ‘pong’ machine from the 70’s?

Fun! Wish we didn’t live half a country apart! 🙂

Oh yes, Carey, beer-pong for the thirty-somethings. I’m happy to report everyone kept there manners and beers in-check!
I too look forward to meeting someday… for now twitter and facebook! Have a great evening.

Mindy, I fulfill my addiction for monogramming often. It looks to me like you may be in the market for a Cricut–an electronic die cutter–and a Xyron sticker maker! Once you have that, you’ll have no need for exacto knives, and you can monogram to your heart’s content! Your idea was extremely clever!

Jamie, I do, I do! Thanks for the tip and for stopping by. Enjoy your 4th! Best, Mindy

I love this idea! My husband and I are thinking of getting a ping-pong table at our new house, and the personalized paddles are so cute.

You make the exacto part look so easy, but I suspect it took a long time.

PS. I’m a twitter follower, too. 🙂

Hi, Jodi! Thanks for stopping by. Actually the exacto didn’t take too long – for obvious reasons you can’t rush through it – but it didn’t absorbe too much time. Honestly! Thanks for stopping by.
