DIY: Blown Eggs

by Mindy Lockard on March 30, 2010

E is for… “E”aster, “E”lle  and another one of my favorites, “E”tiquette!  But in this case, it’s all about the “E”gg!

Lately I’ve been on a quest to find a way to blow out the inside of an egg without actually blowing.  If you’ve ever attempted to make blown eggs, you know that  it’s just an all around uncomfortable process, and by uncomfortable I mean it makes others in the room uncomfortable to watch the process.  Very uncomfortable.

Which lead me on a hunt for a tool to help me on my quest. Based on my reseach I found these bad boys! I was sure they would do the trick.

More like tricked.

So I did what most women do when they have a problem. I called one of my best girl friends, Katie.  Let’s just say, Katie is a GENIUS (sung with vibrato if you couldn’t tell)!

pump

That’s right a pump!  If Katie weren’t pregnant with her fourth child, I would buy her a drink.  I’m pretty sure she’ll take me up on a rain check!

This is how we did it!

supplies

We started with:

  • Eggs (not hard boiled)
  • Dye
  • Letter Stickers (if you choose)

and a few tools just lying around the house.

tools

  • A pin
  • A nail
  • A large sewing needle

First we added a stickers to make the eggs personal–this “E”  is for Elle.

Then we gave them a little dip…

let them dry, pealed off the sticker and poked both ends with a needle.  We then used the tip of the nail to gently make a larger hole but softly turning back and forth.

Then we were ready for the pump, we lined up the tube with one of the holes…

and stepped on the gas a.k.a. quickly pump the foot pump.

Actually, it’s much easier done this way.  But we pretended otherwise (wink)

After the eggs were empty, we let them dry over night and then strung ribbon through with the large needle…

and hung our personalize eggs on one of our trees that we painted blue–you may remember it from this. We call it a famil”e” tree.  I simply couldn’t resist!

Hoppy Easter!  We hope you have an “egg”cellent day!

Yay! I’m glad it worked as well for you as it did for me. And yes, I will take you up on that drink in May! 😉 xo
