Feeling Grateful. How about you?

by Mindy Lockard on January 26, 2011

As a child I loved Little House on the Prairie. What little girl in the 80s didn’t? This week our family had a little set back, all of the way back to the prairie days, when Maggie was diagnosed with Scarlet Fever.

What?  Who knew?

I’ll tell you what, this little fever has me most grateful for so many modern blessing. Such as…

modern medicine, what used to be deadly can now be cured in a few days and several doses.

the mute button, used when a fraternity president called (on my home phone) about dining etiquette programs, half-a-tablespoon into our first dose of modern medicine.

texting, and all of the sweet messages sent by my wonderful friends.

automobiles, because when our cupboards where nearly bare, I could ask my very own Manly to drive to the store and we didn’t have to attempt to live-off the land.  Something these ladies are also grateful for.

washing machines, and that we could pop a few of our favorites in the wash and not “burn” them for fear they had been infected. Or, maybe Ma was on to something…

What modern wonders are you most grateful for today?!

Oh no! Scarlet Fever? That’s awful. I am grateful for my dishwasher…I am not an “every dish by hand “girl. Oh, and my bread machine! I really love making bread, and the dough setting is really great, all I have to do is take out the dough and put it in the oven. (though to be totally honest, we are giant Little House fans in these parts and somedays, because we have a little farm, I do hope to be a little Laura-ish…or Ma-ish since I am the Ma now 😉 )
I hope Maggie is feeling better soon and that the rest of you stay healthy.
