Gidget goes to Del Mar!

by Mindy Lockard on August 13, 2009

I’ve always dreamt about life in the late fifties early sixties – which is why I’m smitten with Mad Men.  But, before the men of Sterling Cooper was…

I had a chance to live my Gidget dream with my very own Moon Doggie while vacationing in Del Mar, California last weekend.

If you call me Gidget, I will respond! By the way, that’s my Moondoggie with the red surfboard in the waves.  What a stud.

Yes it’s true, like Gidget I fell in love this weekend with surfing and the etiquettes that go along with the laidback sport.  My darling friend Stephanie treated me and Moon Doggie to a surf lesson with her (also, very darling) surf instructor/model, Jason.

Jason taught many little etiquettes such as stay off another surfer’s wave, be aware of those surfing around you, and my favorite the ABC’s of surfing: Always Be Cool — as in calm cool and collected.  The more relaxed you are in the water the easier it is to “pop up”.  So is true in life, no?  The keys to surfing are just as true to living a gracious life… Always. Be. Cool!

I found this at a little shop in Del Mar! Love.

As for our little surf bums? To prepare them to watch mommy and daddy ride the waves we read them this fabulous surfing etiquette book Cabo & Coral.  The great thing about the “surfing” lessons in the book are that they are applicable for land and sea.

Here’s to living a graciously “cool” life!

I just love those “Keep Calm and Carry On” placards. Are you familiar with their history? I find it great that the British government decided to take this approach and attitude to get its people through hard times.

Hi, Jen, Thanks for the history! I love the good attitude approach, something very important for leaders during good and bad times. I added the link to the body.
