Getting ready for a getaway certainly isn’t what it used to be. Gone are the days when I shopped for a few new wardrobe pieces, carefully selected an array of reading material and spent days leading up to our departure planning and packing. Now, much of my packing attention is focused on making sure our girls are taken care of and that those who are caring for them have everything they need. I admit, this effort also gives a mother -with a few control issues-the ability to kick back and relax while she’s away!
One tradition we have is Good Behavior Goodie Bags! These bags (one for each girl, for each day) are given to the grandparents or caregiver to use as they wish. Elle and Maggie love the bags as it gives them something to look forward to and helps them remember their manners. Our Grandparents appreciate the bags because they provide a little leverage when a little girl starts to loose her composure (or mind) and the goodies inside help them with an activity for the day. Each bag includes one or two items (never candy) such as coloring books, reading books, play-doh, headbands, tissue etc and can be put together for very little money.
So, now that the goodie bags are packed and the girls are ready to see Oofie (my mother), it’s time for me to finish my packing…I have less than 12 hours before wheels up! See you in California!
