It’s called…Mustard Sauce!

by Mindy Lockard on June 29, 2009

ket-and-mustartWith the 4th of July weekend of burgers and hot dogs ahead, Elle is here to share her special Mustard Sauce. In all honesty, the inspiration for this video came during one of those long summer afternoons when we were looking for a little activity; the girls love to pretend ‘cooking show’ and as always I had my flip at my fingertips. Growing up I loved to pretend to be on a cooking show (sans any recording device, just me in my kitchen) — I also pretended to be a guest on Oprah while getting ready in my bathroom but that’s for another blog…

A little Mustard Sauce history. When we have large groups of friends over for dinner I often pick-up all natural hot dogs from my favorite butcher and wrap them in crescent rolls for the kids. These pigs-in-a-blanket are easy to make and easy to clean-up. I try to include the girls in all things entertaining as that is how my mother did it…it’s simply in the blood. One evening just before the guests arrived Elle asked to make a special sauce. As a lover of condiments -it’s also in the blood from her father’s side of the family – she whipped up this little number. Sometimes as a mom it’s important to let go of the vision, in this case it was retro ketchup and mustard containers, and allow our children to try thier way. In the end, Elle’s sauce was a hit and she was and is very proud of her concoction.

So here she is, chef Elle and her soux chef (a.k.a. partner in crime) Maggie. Take it away ladies…
