Keeping the Winter Blues Away!

by Mindy Lockard on January 14, 2010

The middle of January brings some dark days and cold nights.  There are a few things that are helping to keep my winter blues away…

the January/February issue of is now officially available.  I am so excited about this issue.  I honestly think it’s one of the best issues we’ve produced.  There are so many fun downloads and simple reminders to help subscribers Go Gracious in 2010.  Subscribers here is your copy or if you haven’t subscribed join the publication today!

Second,  stands tall in my bathroom!

I love paperwhites.

Finally, Family Fridays!

All week I look forward to our winter tradition of making every Friday a fun Family Night.  Tonight’s Family Friday is a three course fondue feast:  starting with a cheese, moving-on to beef and mushroom, and finishing with chocolate  Martha style!

What are some bright spots in your winter?

We have not yet taken down our Christmas Tree. Yes, I know it’s mid January, but it’s true. We live in a cozy little cottage in Northern Michigan right on the shore of Lake Michigan. I could not bear to take down the tree after the holidays, it was so festive and brought so much warmth to the house. There are no ornaments, only white lights, pine cones, and sparkly icicles. It is now officially our “Winter Wonderland Tree”. I intend to keep it up through those long cold winter weeks ahead and it will certainly be a topic of conversation when our guests come up next month! But I just know they’re going to love it as much as I do!

I love the Family Fridays idea. We have been doing that for the past couple of Fridays without calling it that…now it’s got a name! Highlights for me are waiting for the Newbery and Caldecott awards to be announced tomorrow morning. I’m a true lover of books and share that excitement with my husband and children.

*Love “Go Gracious.” My theme is “Be NICE…just because.”

*Debbie, I just saw on Twitter about turning your Christmas tree into a Valentine’s theme. Take pics if you do. 🙂
