Oh the Wonder of Words

by Mindy Lockard on April 1, 2010

Aren’t words amazing?  They can sparkle like precious gems or cut like broken glass.  When graciously written (just a little plug for April’s National Letter and Card Writing Month) they are kept as treasures and when sweetly said they are forever etched into our memories.  Sometimes words can come out differently than intended. As the recipient, we can choose to be offended or focus on the spirit rather than what was actually said.  Just like this conversation that came from the back seat of the car on our way to Church last Sunday.

Mom I love it when you wear sunglasses because you look like a movie star!

Oh yeah and Dad, I love it when you wear that blue shirt because it makes you look like the Death Star!

Lucky for Mags her Daddy is a Star Wars fan and the words were taken only as the greatest of compliments!

Will you join me in a gracious living huddle and agree to say or (better yet) write something kind to someone today and have grace with those when they fumble!  Are you in?!  All hands in… Leeeet’s GO!

And, while we are on the subject of kind words, our little home on the web was featured on an  Etiquette site out of Leicester, Great Britain.  I’m still blushing over it all!

I’m in too! A continuation of my commitment from Lent – Slow to anger and rich in kindness. Love the drawings of the girls.

Count me in! I know just who I need to send some kind words to. Congrats on the glowing review on the British site, they certainly know how to mind their manners! So well deserved, Mindy.

Jen, that’s fantastic! I may print that out and paste it to my computer… rich in kindness. What a beautiful statement! XO, Mindy

Hey Mindy –
I have an etiquette question about stuffing the wedding invitations. I looked for an email, but couldn’t find one. I am probably being OCD about this, but want it to be perfectly correct. If you’ll email me, I’ll send you my question if you don’t mind. xoxo

I think niceties can add years to one’s life. Just back from visiting family and my father always has such nice things to say. It is all about gratitude and sharing an “attitude full of gratitude.” Yes, I am in on this, please.
