#SheafferLiving #Giveback Panelist: @UnitedWay

by Mindy Lockard on August 26, 2013

Tomorrow is our #SheafferLiving #Giveback twitter party!

In the spirit of the party, we want to give you a sneak peek into the world of our amazing expert panelists!

Today we introduce you to Jason Bethke, our expert panelist from @UnitedWay!

“When we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all.”

United Way advances the common good. Our focus is on education, income and health — the building blocks for a good quality of life. United Way recruits people and organizations who bring, the passion, expertise and resources to get things done. To participate in this change, people are invited to #Giveback by donating, advocating or volunteering.

Meet Jason…

In the spirit of #GivingBack, do you have a favorite memory of a #Giveback experience?
One of my favorite memories was Spring Fix, our United Way Alternative Spring Break with MTV where 50 college students rebuilt houses damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Three out of four volunteers came from the New York/New Jersey area and many of them were affected by the storm personally. During that week, they gained new skills, grew as leaders and became a really tight knit group. Many of them still have a relationship with United Way and a few even started Student United Way clubs on their campus.

Why is important for you personally to #Giveback?
I’m fortunate to have had people in my life that cared when they didn’t need to. What better way can I show my appreciation towards this network of friends/family than #GivingBack to others in recognition of them?

What lead you to your work in the area of #Giveback and impacting the lives of others?
Prior to working in the nonprofit sector, I worked for a financial firm. The dollar is a fine motivator, but I can’t think of anything more rewarding than working towards community change and the improvement of lives around the world.
Thank you, Jason! We cannot wait to chat with you and our other panelists The World Needs More Love Letters, She’s The First and Verily Magazine tomorrow night!
