The Lockard family hits the road. Destination Sun Valley Idaho.
The chance to get away with my little family of four is such a gift. Which is why we jumped at the opportunity to visit Sun Valley Idaho as guests of the resort for a little family fun in the snow.
We opted to drive. I am from a big family and determined to raise my two girls like there are one of many. Because when there are multiple children, you drive. Driving is good for the soul, scenery and conversation.
That said, even the most well behaved children can get restless. So we’ve created a little “Car Kindness” incentive plan.
For long car rides the prizes are games, books, activities. This particular trip we went with a movie theme and a couple of warm hats. Simple.
We wrapped them up.
During our stops for coffee, gas or lunch evaluated the behavior: Kindness in Words (not complaining), Random Act of Kindness, Kindness to Space (keeping it picked up). If the girls had done the three they picked a prize.
Pillows were shared, garbage was picked up and we arrived in Sun Valley happy with each other and to get out of the car.
Just in time to enjoy dinner at the famous Trail Creek Cabin by way of a sleigh ride!
All in all, an amazing day… a little long. But worth every minute.
Do you have any road trip tricks? I’d love to hear!
