Sun Valley Family Adventure Continues

by Mindy Lockard on February 17, 2014

As a mom there are things you do for your children. Sacrifices you make.

Like getting up early to pack lunches. Forgoing a new pair of shoes so your child can learn an instrument. Or getting back on skis after sixteen years.

Having my girls learn to ski is very important to me. It’s a life skill. Something they can do well into adulthood.

That said, I do not ski.

I can ski. But for years I have chosen to hang out in the lodge and work while the girls ski. You see, skiing has been known to bring out the less gracious side of me. The four letter kind. For me it’s not necessicarliy about the fall, I simply can’t get back up.

That said, how can I encourage my children to try things, to be brave and move outside of their comfort zones if I’m sipping a hot toddy in the lodge.

So I did it here in Sun Valley on Dollar Mountain. The perfect place to ski for kids and moms who haven’t skied in sixteen years.

So friends, I put on a brave face…

didn’t embarrass my family getting on or off the chair lift (baby steps folks)…

and even surprised myself. I skied with little problem and kept my gracious cool!

Like riding a bike.

Although the lodge at Dollar is beautiful…

I’m so happy I was outside. With my family. Being brave and experiencing the moment. This is what life is about and where memories are made.

Get out there Gracious Girls, be bold!  Show your families what you are made of.

Memories they will never forget!
