Take to the Table Tuesday: Black Bean Soup

This week is “Random Acts of Kindness Week!”  How fun is that? This week on the blog we’re going to be posting our thoughts on kindness… of the random sort. Today we’ll share a little fun we are going to have with our friends. And that’s a little “Ding Dong Ditch” Now, typically we don’t ding dong ditch. Really, it’s not good manners, but today it’s an exception.

Yesterday, we made this soup in our slow cooker.


First we added all of the ingredients to our slow cooker…

  • 5 cans black beans
  • 2 cans corn
  • 2 chopped carrots
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 pressed garlic clove
  • 1 package cooked crispy bacon
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery

and poured in 32 ounces of veggie broth and cooked on high for 6 hours.


Today we’re packaging it in freezer containers–for my friends who have their meals planned out weeks in advance. We made and printed these stickers to dress up the containers added a box of corn bread mix and wrapped up in a basket.  A meal to have on hand or in the freezer.


Our very own meals on wheels.  Kindness never felt so good!
