Taking to the Table Tuesday: Welcome Wagon

by Mindy Lockard on September 14, 2009

I’ve always had a heart for the “new kid” which translates to the “new mom” in my current phase in life.  A couple of weeks ago the girls and I hosted a “welcome to town playdate” for a friend of one my sister’s childhood friends (did you get that?) that just moved to town with her family. Planning a midmorning snack for new friends can be tricky as you don’t want a new (or old friend for that matter) to leave with a bad taste in his or her mouth.  With this in mind, I sent out a tweet asking for ideas. What was tweeted back was a very sweet tweet: Lemon poundcake with the promise from @worththewhisk that I could make it with on-hand ingredients.

Sounded like a win-win – and it was!

The morning of our playdate Maggie and I got busy in the kitchen baking.

For this terrifically tart pound cake, pop over to Worth The Whisk for the recipe.

We served the warm pound cake with fresh fruit and juice…

What did you serve the last time you welcomed new friends to town?

You are welcome to our hood any time! I think living in the hoo-dee-hood would be pretty fabulous too!
