Will You Help Me Face It?

by Mindy Lockard on June 6, 2010

So, I’m working on a little project and I need your help. I’m looking for a face for a gracious girl. A girl that’s going to grace a lot of my material for my twenty-something female clients. Once I have a face, I will add a body and my clients will dress this girl up in their gracious best. A gracious paper doll of sorts. I know it may sound confusing, but never fear it will make perfect sense in a few weeks…

Will you help me by giving your honest opinion? What I’m looking for is a face to represent all twenty-something females as my clients are not cookie cutter; I’d like her to look retro and hand drawn.

Of these faces–please pretend they don’t have a hairstyle that requires a weekly trip to the salon rollers and a chair hairdryer–am I close or still way off? Remember, honesty is the most gracious policy.  Especially when asked… hit me with your best thought or thoughts!

Good morning, Mindy–
Your quest reminds of that long ago ad for the Breck Girl. Perhaps you can ask another excellent blogger/artist to do it–PVEDesign,
Patricia Van Essche in NY. Ooops I see that you already have her on
sites you love.
How about a dark haired young woman who is thoughtful and savvy.
Hmm..maybe #1–
Best wishes,

I like #1 the best!

I like #1 the best! Can’t wait to see the finished product. 🙂

Thank you ladies! Barbara, great suggestion and yes I absolutely adore PVE and count her a dear friend! Off to gogle the Breck Girl.

Oops! Lady in Pearls in responding to you I deleted your vote so here it is…
i’m odd man out, I love number 3. I like her doe-eyed look, makes me think of the old Blondie comics from the fifties. Shocker, I like something that looks fifties. hahaha

Mindy’s Note: Oh lady, you are not alone, there have been other twitter friends who have voted that way but just not here. All about the 50s here too my friend!

I vote for #1 and I can’t wait to see/hear about the final results. Have fun!

Yikes, I really feel out of step! I like the nose and smile on #3 best, and the eyes on #1 the most. Good luck, I know you will come up with a fab look! BTW, the chat with Elle post was simply divine, such a wonderful way to handle what could be a very dicey situation. Good for you, I admire your way with words!

I like #1 the best but I wonder if she’s too… old? Maybe higher cheekbones, just a thought. Fun idea!

You can look at our 22 year old twins on facebook for real examples?
Jennifer Allgood, Portland, OR (blonde)
Emily Allgood, Gilbert, AZ (brunette)

I love all of the feedback! Thank you and keep it comin’!

I vote for number 1!! She looks the most friendly in my opinion.

My vote is for #3!

My short answer is #1. She’s the friendliest – at least for Caucasian women. I do like #3’s mouth, though. #2 looks a bit sarcastic, like she’s going through the motions, but doesn’t believe in the whole manners thing.

I’m loving the feedback! Thank you.

I like #1 the best, but I am a Caucasian woman. I’d be curious to know if African-American, Asian-American, and other women of color feel the same about #1 or identify with any of the others? It might be impossible to find one caricature that appeals to all races, but it might be worth considering. Just my two cents, and good luck to you.

Thanks, Anne! I think that’s a great point and welcome any thoughts. My audience is not only Caucasian women and I want this person to trancend race.
